Kun (Oppression) — Lake above Water below. Lake without water is itself trapped by water. When trapped, actions speak louder than words.

Line-by-Line

Line 1:臀困于株木,入于幽谷,三岁不觌。
Buttocks trapped on a stump — entering a dark valley; three years without daylight. Deeply oppressed, no hope in sight.
Line 2:困于酒食,朱绂方来,利用享祀。征凶,无咎。
Oppressed amid food and wine — the red sash just arrived; favorable for offerings, not for campaigns. Small comforts in hardship; do not act rashly.
Line 3:困于石,据于蒺藜,入于其宫,不见其妻,凶。
Trapped on stone, leaning on thorns — entering home, no wife to be seen; danger. Obstacles everywhere, utterly alone.
Line 4:来徐徐,困于金车,吝有终。
Coming slowly — trapped in a golden carriage; regret but good ending. Prolonged hardship but eventual improvement.
Line 5:困于赤绂,乃徐有说,利用祭祀。
Nose and feet cut — oppressed by the red sash; slowly released; favorable for offerings. Wounded but redeemable through righteous path.
Line 6:困于葛藟,于臲兀,曰动悔。有悔,征吉。
Tangled in creepers, on unstable ground — every move brings regret. But with regret, action brings good fortune. At rock bottom, movement brings reversal.
