The Self and Response Lines in Na Jia
Every hexagram has one Shi and one Ying, separated by two positions. Shi represents you and your perspective. Ying represents the other party or external environment.
Shi position is determined by line changes from the palace pure hexagram. In the pure hexagram, Shi is at line 6. Ying is always two positions from Shi.
If Shi generates Ying, you benefit others. If Ying generates Shi, the situation benefits you. If Shi controls Ying, you have the advantage.
The Shi line must be strong and well-supported. A weak Shi suggests you are not in a position of strength. Never empty or struck in time-sensitive readings.
Ying represents your target. Even with strong Shi, a weak Ying may mean the opportunity is not ready. Ying timing is critical for predicting when results manifest.
